GST Registration Process

  • Visit the GST official website which is “www.gst.gov.in” and click on ‘New User Login’ (if you are a new user) shown below.

  • Then tick ‘I agree’ statement and click on ‘Continue’ button to register. You can check the steps to complete provisional Registration.

  • Once you click on the “Continue” button, you can check the entire required document there. Keep all the documents ready and click on “Continue” button. You will also need to provide certain important details and also have to upload some documents listed below.
1.       Provisional ID of VAT
2.       Password
3.       Valid email address
4.       valid mobile number
5.       Bank account number
6.       IFSC documents
7.       Proof of business in PDF or JPEG format (maximum file size should be 1 MB).
8.       Photograph
9.       Proof of appointment

  • Now, you will need to log in it by using your ‘Provisional ID’ provided by the tax department and password for login. If you do not have your provisional ID, then you can contact the state commercial tax authorities of your circle.

  • In this online Enrollment process,  you will create a new username and password at GST portal.
  • You will need to complete 4 steps (Provisional ID verification, OTP verification, New credentials and Security questions).
  • Also, You will need to provide a valid email address and mobile number in enrolling process as it is important for future use and for verification.

  • You will get an OTP in email as well as on mobile number, enter it and click on ‘Continue’ button.

  • After OTP verification, you will need to fill new credentials (new username and password), re-confirm password and click on “Continue” button.

  • Now, you will need to complete five security questions and click ‘Submit’ button.

  • Then, you will be redirected to the login page where you will see a confirmation message that shows that your username and password has been created successfully. Now, you will need to log in with your username and password.

  • You can also go to the home page of GST and click on “Existing User Login” to log into your account.

  • Enter username, password and click on Login button.

  • Then, you will be to the ‘Welcome Page’ of your account where you will need to click ‘continue’ button.

  • Now you will see some options such as ‘Provisional ID Enrollment’ link available on the dashboard that display the Enrollment application. With “My saved application” tab you can check your saved application that you have submitted already and with “Register/ Update DSC” tab you can register your DSC first time or update existing DSC.

“Enrol Application Form-Multiple Tabs”

  • Fill, all the required details with available tabs as Business details, Promoters or partners, authorized signatory, principal place of business, Additional place of business, Goods and services, Bank accounts details and Verification. Fill all the required details under these tabs to complete the form and then submit the form.

  • Business details: you will need to provide all the required details such as your business name as per PAN and Current Tax Act, your PAN number, State of your business, ward or circle etc. Fill all these details, check filled details carefully, save the form and then click on ‘Continue’ button.

  • Owners’ Details: Provide details of promoters or partners of the business and save and click on ‘continue’ button. In case if you are an authorized signatory then select the ‘Authorized signatory’ to provide your details.

  • Place of Business: Provide the required details, save and click ‘Continue’ button.
  • Goods and Services: Type the ‘HSN’ code of the goods of your business. In case you do not know the code then type the name of the goods available under ‘Search HSN code’ to get the HSN code. Now, Save and continue the process. You will also need to fill some other code also same as guided above.

  • Bank Details: Provide your bank details such as account number, type of account and IFSC code. You should also note that for verification you will need to upload the photocopy of your bank passbook.

  • Verification tab: After submitting all the required details, you need to verify the above-filled details. You will need to provide your digital signature with DSC (digital signature certificate).

  • Finally, submit the form after verification. On ‘Successful Submission’ you will see a confirmation message that will be displayed on your computer screen and within few minutes you will get an acknowledgement. An application receipt or ARN will be sent in your email and you can use it for future use or query.

“Register/ Update DSC (Digital Signature Certificate)”

  1. Click “Register/ Update DSC” tab.
  2. Register Digital Signature Certificate page will open.
  3. To register DSC, you will need to download and install DSC installer from the Register Digital Signature Certificate page from the available link.
  4. Now, select PAN, tick the box and click on “Proceed” button.
  5. Navigate and choose the certificate and click the “Sign” button.
  6. Then, you can check the message that shows that your DSC has been successfully registered.

Login – for First Time or Existing User Login

GST New User Login – Enter Provisional ID / GSTIN / UIN

As you selected the option for login first time. Now you need to enter your “Provisional ID / GSTIN / UIN”. GST provisional ID / GSTIN / UIN has been provided to you after successful registration on GST portal. If you do not remember your “Provisional ID / GSTIN / UIN” then check your email which you received after GST Registration. Also, you get a GST Provision ID on your registered mobile number. So you can get your “Provisional ID / GSTIN / UIN” from your phone inbox message.

GST New User Login – Enter Password

Now you need to provide the GST Password for your username. Please note that password is case sensitive. So it is very important to type the password in exactly same way. If you forgot you GST password then do not worry. You can reset gst password of your account.

Click Login Button

Once you enter the correct username and password for your GST Account then click on the “Login” button. If your entered “Provisional ID / GSTIN / UIN” & “Password” will be correct then you will successfully login to your GST portal for the first time.

Forgot Password

Once you click the “Login ” button on the homepage then you will see the GST Login page. On the Login page, you will see the following option:-

  • Field for Entering Username
  • Field for entering Password
  • Login button
  • “Forgot Username” Option
  • “Forgot Password” option

Username & Generate OTP

When you click the “Forgot Password” option in the above step. You will reach to “forgot password” web page where you will have to do following:-

  • Provide your GST “Username” in the “username” field. Username which you are providing should be correct else you will not be able to reset your password
  •  Enter the “Captcha Code” correctly
  • Finally, you need to click on the “GENERATE OTP” button

Enter OTP & Click “Continue”

Once you will click the “GENERATE OTP” option in the above step. The OTP (One Time Password) will be sent to your email ID and on your registered mobile number. You will have to enter OTP in the box and then click the “Continue” button. Check the screen shot

Note: If you do not receive OTP in your email or mobile number then you will have to click the “RESEND OTP” link to get it again.

Create New Password

As soon as you will enter the correct OTP and Click “Continue” button in the above step, a new page will open where you can create a new password.

  • You can enter a password of your choice (Create a safe & Secure Password).
  • Re-confirm the password
  • Then click on “SUBMIT” button.

Note: You should also note that your password should be 8-15 characters that contain at least one number, one special character, one upper and one lower case letter.

    • Sequence of keystrokes:  Password like “123456” known as sequence of keystrokes, which is very easy to guess so do not use such password also.
  • Example of Secure Passwords

    • “words” incorrectly spelt: “H8work” is an example of a secure password with “word” incorrectly spelt.
    • “strike” keyword randomly: “ht65rfm8” is an example of a random password which is generated by striking keyword randomly.

  • Re-confirm it and then click on “CHANGE PASSWORD” button.

My Saved Application

  • Once you are logged in to your GST portal and reach your GST Dashboard, then navigate to “Services“.
  • After that, you need to go to “User Services“.

Fill all the details – PAN Number, Aadhaar number

When you will click on the “Link Aadhaar” option as mentioned in the above step then you will reach to new screen where you need to enter all the following important details:-

  • PAN : First you need to enter your Alphanumeric PAN Number correctly.
  • Aadhar Number : Then you need to enter your 12 digit Aadhar Number.
  • Name as per AADHAAR : After that you need to enter your name as mentioned in your Aadhaar Card. Please check carefully as if there will be any typo error then your Aaadhar card will not connect to your PAN.
  • If you have only year of birth in your Aadhar card then tick the option “I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card” else leave it.
  • Captcha Code : The next thing you need to do is to Enter the captcha code show in the image correctly.

Once you will fill all the details in the above step then all you need to do is to click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.  But you have to keep following note in the mind :-

Note: In the case of any mismatch in Aadhar number provided, Aadhar OTP will be required at once. Please kindly ensure that the date of birth & gender in PAN and Aadhar number are thoroughly correct.

In case Aadhar number is different from name in PAN, then linking will be failed & tax payer will be promoted to change the name in Aadhar or in PAN database.

If you are already registered then you have to make log in to the e-filling website of income tax department using your Login Username, Password Date of Birth 

Note : Enter your correct username, password & date of birth. If there will be any mistake in any of these details then you will not be able to log in to your portal.

Navigate to “Profile Settings” & Click on “Link Aadhaar” Option

Once you will be logged in to e-filling website then  you need to go to the blue tab on the top bar named “Profile Settings” & click on Link Aadhar.
